Applications FAQs

In determining eligibility for entry, BTI uses a system of multiple entry requirement criteria, which include:

  • The ability to achieve academically.
  • Prior academic and/or professional experience or qualifications.
  • Character qualities including a calling or passion to the field of your interest and an empathy with the objectives of BTI.
  • Personal suitability for the vocation.

You can check the entry criteria for each programme below:

Applicants should have empathy with the Christian ethos of BTI, which aims to help students develop a Christian perspective on life and their field of work. Students should have qualities such as personal integrity, diligence and teachability, together with those outlined in the character references. Applicants will be required to grant permission to the Ministry of Justice to release any information concerning criminal convictions.

If you are planning on paying your tuition fees via Student Loan please make an application with Studylink as soon as possible. You can start an application with Studylink before  completing your BTI application.

  • Please refer to the Important Dates for the start, end and intensive dates for the programmes.
  • If you need to find your National Student Number (NSN), you can request this by contacting the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) on 0800 697 296 (between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday) or by emailing through the NZQA website.

You may bring certain experience and/or qualifications that might parallel parts of the programme in which you are enrolling. In these circumstances you can seek the credit towards (and thus exemption from) those aspects of the programme. This opportunity is in keeping with BTI’s Credit Recognition and Transfer Policy (CRT).

For more information including the requirements and process for CRT please contact the Applications Administrator applications@bti.ac.nz.

Academic staff will interview all applicants eligible for entry into a programme. Interviews can be carried out either by Zoom or onsite and are intended to supplement evidence of character, academic achievement and motivation. BTI may require an in person interview for some applicants irrespective of where they live. The outcome of the interview, including an offer of a studentship place if successful, will be advised as soon as possible after the interview.

The Application Fee is a non-refundable payment for processing an application. To pay, go to our secure online payment portal. Alternatively, you may pay by EFTPOS or credit card onsite at the BTI reception.
