Richard Cook

Biography

Richard teaches in the Postgraduate Certificate in Responding to Trauma and the counselling degree programme here at BTI. He led the development of counselling and social work degree programmes at BTI Tauranga for 20 years and returned after overseeing programmes at St John’s Theological College in Auckland. Richard is on the international Spiritual Direction team with Larger Story where he journeys with people as they seek life-giving connection with God.

Richard co-edited Interweavings: Conversations between Narrative Therapy and Christian faith and is currently writing a new book Conversations that Matter: Re:Visioning Spiritual Direction from the Teaching of Dr Larry Crabb.

Married to Caroline, they enjoy walks with their Labrador and growing vegies and bonsais.

Research

Richard is currently writing up research on Dr Larry Crabb’s approach to spiritual direction as practiced by those he trained and re-conceptualising it for the millennial generation.

Areas of Expertise

Richard has worked as a Pastor and teacher, counsellor, supervisor and spiritual director. He continues to support those in pastoral ministry as well as exploring contemporary expressions of spiritual direction.
