At BTI, you will learn from staff who are experienced teachers and educators, researchers, practitioners, health workers and graduates themselves. Many have worked in private practice, for public institutions and for universities in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.
Biography
Karyn joined the Teacher Education team at BTI in 2005, working part time for one year before moving to full time in 2006. Since then, she has enjoyed teaching across both the ECE and Primary programmes. For the last 15 years Karyn has held the role of Programme Leader for Early Childhood Education.
Prior to beginning at BTI, Karyn worked in a range of Early Learning Services, including Christian early learning centres and state kindergartens. During this time, she held various leadership and management positions.
Deeply invested in Christian Education, Karyn is committed to seeing educators grow and strengthen their understanding of what it means to teach Christianly. She is motivated to build a strong community in which all members can flourish. Underpinned by a strong belief that all are uniquely and wonderfully made in the image of God, Karyn is passionate about pastoral care and mentoring, seeking to nurture and support others to recognise their worth and helping them to develop and fulfill their God-given potential. This commitment to mentor others has led to a range of opportunities to provide advice and guidance and carry out appraisals for leaders, managers, and teachers in various early learning services.
In her spare time, Karyn enjoys music, crafts and drinking good coffee with friends and whānau.

Karyn’s most recent research has involved reviewing and developing the latest iteration of the BEd (Tchg) ECE degree. Her current project involves researching and strengthening the key principles and ideas within the programme’s Conceptual Framework.
