Biography
Karen joined the School of Social Practice at BTI in 2016.
Prior to coming to BTI, Karen had worked at Parentline and Te Aroha Noa (Palmerston North) for a number of years as a counsellor. Her involvement in these agencies included extensive training relating to working with children and families, leading to involvement in group work. She holds accreditations for Incredible Years and Triple P Parenting facilitation and has worked as an area coordinator for Incredible Years at the Ministry of Education. This role involved supervision of practicing teams, coordination with NGO management and staff. She has developed psycho-education groups for family related issues. Karen also has a passion for working with trauma and has been ACC accredited for a number of years, continuing this work in her private practice alongside agency and then BTI work.
Research
Karen has completed her Master’s thesis on “What influences our peer conflict behaviours”. She is currently working on publishing a condensed version of this.
