At BTI, you will learn from staff who are experienced teachers and educators, researchers, practitioners, health workers and graduates themselves. Many have worked in private practice, for public institutions and for universities in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas.
Biography
Janette began at BTI in 2017 as an educator in the B.Ed. (Teaching) Primary programme and in the took on the role of Programme Leader in 2021.
Prior to BTI, Janette worked in a range of primary schools; state, special character and special education in Auckland and Tauranga.
She has 20 years of experience in the classroom, having taught children from Y0 – Y8, and undertaken various leadership roles. Janette has a particular interest in supporting the education of students with additional learning needs and spent time working both in an assessment and therapy centre and home-schooling young people who were not achieving well in traditional school settings. Janette’s master’s in literacy education led her to work in an advisory role working with teachers to develop their literacy programmes to accelerate achievement.
Research
Janette’s current research is focused on revitalising and designing new programmes for delivery in the School of Teacher Education at BTI.
